The middle section of the thatch to both the front and rear elevations, the wattle and daub to the underside of the thatch and the lathe and plaster ceilings below were substantially affected by fire and extinguishment water.
The key to the success of this project was the close co-ordination and sequencing of the repairs. We agreed with our Client from the outset that the works would be undertaken in two phases.
We were able to secure an early start date from a local Master Thatcher, we therefore had a very limited timeframe to complete Phase one which included the repair of the roof timbers, cleaning down and re-pointing the chimney stacks and installing the new hazel lathes in preparation for the daub. In order to progress matters, we met with a local English Heritage contractor and the Conservation Officer on site in order that we could agree the extent of works and negotiate the cost for Phase one.
Phase two was centred around the internal repairs which could only be undertaken when the property was sympathetically dried.
